The Kenya national soccer team Harambee Stars went down 1-0 to Botswana in an international friendly match played at the University of Botswana stadium in Gaberone on Wednesday 10 August 2011.This was the ninth loss out of eleven matches under coach Zedekiah Otieno who also doubles as the coach for Gor Mahia and will surely sink the national team's FIFA ranking even lower.
Botswana scored through a late penalty from Moemedi Jomo to seal the win, in a game of two halves, where the first was dominated by the stars with the second going the home side's way.
Striker Dennis Oliech, operating as a lone force in coach Zedekiah Otieno's line up, also came close to opening the scoring when he was played clean through on goal but the Auxerre striker failed to beat the Botswana goalkeeper from close range.
Coach Zedekiah Otieno brought in strikers Bob Mugalia in second half, but the second half belonged to Botswana with the Zebra's creating some openings to no effect ,until the last moments of the game, when they got their penalty with ten minutes to go.
This result has placed the current Harambee Stars coach under scrutiny as soccer fans advanced mixed reactions concerning his ability to run the team. some fans feel that it is time he decided either to coach Gor Mahia or the Harambee Stars while they say that it was a daunting task to take over both jobs and do them perfectly. even so there are those who believe that 'Zico' has had enough time in the national team and that it is time he paved way for a new tactician.
Below is the team that played in Botswana.
Arnold Origi, James Situma, Pascal Ochieng, Anthony Kimani, Kevin Ochieng, Dennis Odhiambo, McDonald Mariga, Victor Wanyama, Titus Mulama, Jamal Mohammed, Dennis Oliech. Subs: Bob Mugalia.
Hahaa Kenya National Soccer elections still in a state of wait and see. when will this soccer leaders realize that Kenyans are in mood for change and not impunity and chest thumping.
